Retina Recognition software presented to
Jason Felce, September 2010

Following the success of Rockride 1 we were able to provide Retina recognition software to Jason Felce, a student suffering with Cerebral Palsy who attended the PACE Centre Aylesbury.

Jason, pictured with his Mother Lorna, is wearing the collar of the Provincial Grand Master  RW Bro. Ray Reed.

Jason's Progress

Jason has written a children's book for 3 - 5 year olds in 2016. He wrote it himself and held a competition in his school for students to draw his        characters and he chose the ones he liked to be included in the book. He sold them for £5 and donated £1 for every book to the charity Dogs for Good which is where Zeke, his now retired assistance dog came from. He sold around 250 books. Some went into schools across Milton Keynes, Cumbria and even one in Ireland and one in Australia. I believe we have a few left if anyone is interested.

In 2017 he surprised us with an interview he did with the Worcester Warriors rugby team on the big screen at half time! It was a big surprise initiated by Jason with the help of the National Star college (where he is a 3rd year     student now) and the Warriors, It was amazing!

In 2018 Jason was lucky enough to attend the Stephen Hawking memorial in London and attended the garden party after with the Hawking family and celebrities. He had great fun chatting to the likes of Brian Cox, Benedict Cumberbatch, Piers Morgan  and his favourites, Astronaut Tim Peake and Lucy Hawking. The Stephen Hawking foundation chose the photo of them (above) as their Xmas card last year too. Tim Peake gave him a badge that he'd taken into space as a gift. Jason told Lucy that her dad was a wonderful man and an inspiration.

As Technology advanced Jasons Retina recognition software was upgraded to include an audio facility which now meant his written words became spoken words.

In November 2019 he was interviewed by BBC radio 4 alongside another student having a conversation using their communication devices.

It was initially to be put into the radio archives as a first because no other conversation of this nature had ever been recorded. However, the BBC were so impressed and said that Jason was hilarious that they may find a spot on one of their shows to air it!

The recording was subsequently aired on radio and many listened to the interview.

True to form after the interview Jason pointed out that he was 21 years old and would prefer the voice of a younger man rather than the ‘old mans’ voice he had been given through the software, an issue that was immediately corrected.
